The signs you need an emergency vet Ashby

Pets are a huge part of our lives. Sometimes it’s hard to tell if their health is declining and regular check-ups are a great way to determine they are fit and well. It’s mostly obvious if an animal is in need of emergency treatment. It’s almost guaranteed that you will need our emergency vet Ashbyservice if your pet is showing any of the below symptoms, is seriously injured, or displaying any of the following behaviours:

  • Frothing in the mouth
  • All accidents or physical injury
  • Unconsciousness
  • Your pet has collapsed
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Suspect a broken bone
  • Experiencing a seizure or have experienced a seizure
  • A wound is open and/or bleeding
  • Inability to walk or lameness
  • Your pet is visibly in pain
  • Have a swollen abdomen
  • Vomiting persistently
  • Ongoing diarrhoea

The well-being and health of your pet is paramount to us. If the above is brought to your attention, please do not hesitate to contact Woodward Veterinary Practice.

Your pet is our priority – Emergency Vet Ashbury

If an emergency unfolds, and you need to attend our Park Vet practice, a 30-minute drive from Woodward, it is vital you dial our emergency telephone 01530 412 035 in advance and avoid turning up to our practice. Just like you would if we as humans experience an emergency. It is a critical part of an emergency - we can make any necessary arrangements for your arrival and it also gives us time to get things ready to have your pet seen immediately. Time is crucial!  Informing us with adequate information will help our experts with the advice and treatment that needs to be carried out rapidly.

In the event that our services aren't available at Woodward Veterinary Practice for whatever reason, we can still provide emergency vet Ashby services through our partnership with Park Vet Group, which is located 30 minutes away at:

Park Vet Group, 162 Dominion Road, Glenfield, Leicestershire, LE3 8JA

In addition to providing free advice over the phone, our emergency out-of-hours vets will also ask you any relevant questions to determine whether you need to bring your pet into the Leicester surgery for immediate treatment or if there is anything you can do until normal practice hours resume.

Please do not hesitate to contact us out of hours if you are in doubt about whether your pet is unwell or it is an emergency. We can tell you if your pet needs to be seen or if it is safe to wait until the morning when our regular practice opens again.

Planning for an emergency

It is never possible to know what is around the corner or when an incident or emergency may occur, so it is always helpful to be prepared.  In the unfortunate case that your pet may need to attend our emergency out of hours vets think ahead and have a plan.

  • Keep the Woodward Veterinary Practice number in your phone – if an emergency occurs, you don’t want to scramble around for the contact number
  • Know in advance if an emergency occurred, how you are going to get to the practice (day & night).
  • Will you need assistance to get your pet to the vet if they are too unwell to walk? Who would assist you in an emergency?
