Dog Information
We would like to draw your attention to our VIP plan which is open for all pets to join.
This plan enables you to budget for routine vaccinations, worming and flea treatment with easy direct debit monthly payments.
It also means that you will be entitled to a 15% discount on all other costs at the surgery including operations, consultations, drugs, diets and waiting room sales.
A lot of pets have now joined this scheme
and the best time to sign up is at or just
after vaccinations so that a registration
fee is avoided.
FREE CHECK UP
When your pet is 5 – 6 months old, you will be entitled to a FREE check up with one of our qualified nurses.
This will include a review of growth, behaviour and weight, and a discussion about any concerns you might have.
At Ashby; microchipping can usually be carried out at this appointment.
Vaccinations:
New puppies should be brought to the surgery for a full health check as soon as they are acquired.
Vaccinations start from 10 weeks of age, with the second injection 2-4 weeks later to complete the course. Puppies can go outside 7-10 days after completing the course.
It is very important that this 2nd injection is given, otherwise maximum protection against disease will not be achieved. After this initial course of 2 injections, annual boosters are required to maintain immunity. We will send you a reminder and give you a vaccination certificate.
Our vaccination course includes:
- Distemper
- Hepatitis
- Leptospirosis
- Parvovirus
- Parainfluenza
The vaccine we normally use is the Duramune range by Pfizer. Annual boosters are required, but on a 3 year cycle of full booster every 3 years with part boosters in between, starting with full booster 1 year after puppy vaccinations.
We also recommend Kennel Cough vaccination for dogs being kennelled or high risk. We are happy to discuss the protocol if the owner is unsure if it is required or not. An annual booster is required and Kennel Cough vaccination is a requirement for most kennels.
.
Worming:

ALL PUPPIES & KITTENS HAVE ROUNDWORMS
and we recommend that your new pet is wormed for roundworms every two weeks until 12 weeks old, then monthly until 6 months old.
During your first visit we will give you a complimentary Milbemax worm tablet to start this process. A free frontline flea treatment is given with the second injection.
Flea Control:

There is a bewildering array of anti-parasite products on the market and we will be happy to give advice about the products most suited to your pet's lifestyle.
Microchipping:

We recommend that all pets should be microchipped. This can be easily and quickly carried out at your next visit. The cost is £19.95 with a £5.00 voucher to use for other purchases.
Neutering:
Neutering of all pets is highly recommended and a 10% neutering discount voucher is enclosed to help towards the cost of the operation at our surgeries.
This voucher is valid for 12 months for cats and 18 months for dogs.
Cats can be neutered from 4 months old, male dogs from 6 months old
and bitches 4 months after the start of the first season
